Clover Extract-SC
INCI name_ Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Extract
Clover is a short-lived, herbaceous plant that typically grows between 20-80 cm tall. It has three leaves with a pale crescent each
and dark pink flowers.
The plant is native European but it has been naturalised to North and South America. As well as its important uses as a fodder
crop and to improve soil fertility, clover is used to make a sweet herbal tea. In the middle ages the clover was considered a charm
worn to ward off evil spirits and witches.
Researchers have shown clover extract is effective in reducing skin aging via increasing collagen in sufferers of estrogen
deprivation; a common symptom of the menopause. Our own studies have shown positive results for antioxidant effects, anti-
inflammatory effects and skin whitening.

- Tyrosinase is the key enzyme responsible for the synthesis of melanin by melanocyctes . Melanin is responsible for skin
pigmentation

- Tyrosinase inhibition activity of clover extract is compared to that of Kojic acid (100%) inhibition activity

- Error bars represent the confidence interval between extract and control activities

- Increase in confidence interval compared to that of the control indicates increase in tyrosinase inhibition activity with increase in
extract concentration from 0.5% to 2%

 - Whitening and brightening properties confirmed

 - Increase in scavenging activity correlates with increase in clover extract concentration

 - Steady increase in scavenging activity from 3.13% to 50% extract concentration

 - Over 50% scavenging activity is reached at 50% extract concentration

 - Antioxidant properties confirmed
